We’ve talked about design principals for cooling the house in the summer heat but how about heating that living room slab in winter? Well, aside from hydronic heating tubes integrated with the slab, we can also count on passive solar heating, direct (and free) from the sun. The window and door openings have been designed to allow the sun to fall directly onto the concrete surface to passively heat the mass… not to mention providing site dog with much needed sun on her back so she can take off her overcoat at the coldest time of year.
