Burnishing the concrete

Burning also known as “burnishing” happens after the concrete is in place but still not cured. The surface is worked by trowel either mechanically or by hand, to give a smooth, durable surface. It looks polished, but because the surface is worked while still uncured, the upper surface becomes more compacted and hard-wearing than it might otherwise be. As it got darker in the day, we had to pull out the builder’s lamps… and don’t you love Mark’s hoodie 😊
