Burning also known as “burnishing” happens after the concrete is in place but still not cured. The surface is worked by trowel either mechanically or by hand, to give a smooth, durable surface. It looks polished, but because the surface is worked while still uncured, the upper surface becomes more compacted and hard-wearing than it might otherwise be. As it got darker in the day, we had to pull out the builder’s lamps… and don’t you love Mark’s hoodie 😊
